A musical life

1955 - 2017

Songwriter,

Loved by many, near and far, she was a renowned songwriter who composed in a variety of styles ranging from lively and upbeat western and standard swing to cowboy waltzes, heartfelt jazz ballads, and sweet and honest country love songs.

Nancy took particular delight in the sights, sounds, and scents of the west. Many of her songs are filled with coyotes and cactus and the prairie moon frequently provided the background for her ballads.

Ranger Doug of Riders in the Sky called Nancy "one of the excellent new songwriters in the western field". Mike Gross of Swingin' West radio show said Nancy's "material is real class western music that just fits in perfectly."

Entertainer,

Nancy was a performing musician for many years, working in combos large and small, playing western and standard swing music, old-timey and Cajun dance music, and folk and bluegrass music. Nancy had a true talent for composing songs which fit perfectly within the genre, so her original numbers were always highlights of any show.

Nancy played rhythm guitar, ukulele, piano, drums, and various hand percussion instruments, and sang lead and harmony vocals. She performed with several bands in Colorado including Swing Chicks, Tupelo Honey, Complete Unknowns, Swing State, Blue Prairie and Gadzukes!

Teacher.

Nancy specialized in western swing, standard swing, and folk styles of rhythm guitar, and traditional and swing-style ukulele. Students of all ages found that Nancy took great delight in sharing the joy of music with those around her. She taught individual and group lessons, as well as classes and workshops at festivals around the country and Canada. Nancy also taught songwriting and was particularly adept at helping students add chords and rhythms to their original songs. She believed that, above all else, learning and playing music should be fun!
